State Duma ratifies convention on part-time working day

The State Duma ratified the Convention of the International Labour Organization (ILO) concerning the work on conditions of incomplete working time.

«The Convention includes the measures to ensure that people who have part-time jobs are provided with the same rights and guarantees as workers employed full time; it involves salary (in proportion to working time), termination of employment relationships, annual paid leaves or paid holidays and social security», — say the accompanying materials.

It is clarified that the provisions of the Convention correspond to the Russian legislation and are already being applied in labor relations.

«The Russian legislation provides the necessary guarantees to workers employed part-time. Ratification of the Convention will create additional conditions for improving the regulatory framework. This is especially important considering the fact that incomplete working time is often for pensioners, students and families with small children», — said the head of the Duma Committee on labor, social policy and veterans affairs, Olga Batalina.

The Convention was adopted at the 81st session of the General conference of the ILO in Geneva on 24 June 1994 and entered into force on 28 February 1998.
